Thanksgiving

Today our family loaded up and headed to church.  We attend a VERY small "cowboy church" in a tiny little town just south of our large suburb.

A fully packed house in our church may be a congregation of 60 people.  Today we probably had 30 people in attendance.

When you walk into the door at cowboy church, you will be greeted with hellos all round, hugs, and sincere fellowship and kindess.

Today, I was immediately greeted by an elderly gentleman who is an adoptive parent.  He hugged me and said the Lord blessed your family through adoption and you are enjoying His blessings everyday.  I could not agree more.  We talked adoption for bit.

The man told me about his adopted daughter.  He told me she is an adoptive parent herself.  As he and I chatted another adoptee joined our conversation.  Her parents adopted her and her sister as infants.  We laughed as I heard stories about them growing up.

Our pastor's sermon was about thankfulness today.  Obviously, this is a week we focus on our thankfulness.  He encouraged us to be thankful in all situations, even those where we struggle to find reasons for thanksgiving.

As I left church, I was hugged and wished a good week by a mom whose family fosters children.  She told me all about the house full she had last night.

Our church family is overflowing with adoption and adoption stories, with a few foster stories as well.  Such a small congregation but such a huge story of adoption and so many reasons to be thankful.

Happy National Adoption Month.  Happy Thanksgiving.  Be Blessed.
