Turning 6, Grandparents, Obedience and a Fire

We have been a little busy lately and I have not taken much time to blog.  It is amazing how fast life changes once your child begins school.  Who knew kindergarten could have such an affect on your daily calendar and social life?

So, here's what we have been up to...

Brice will soon be turning six.  His birthday falls over the holiday weekend so we tried to plan something for him a couple of weeks in advance.  School began and we decided something small would be best.  He chose to take two of his friends out for a day of fun to celebrate this weekend.  Unfortunately his friend Ryan hurt himself right before we picked him up so he made a trip to urgent care instead of partying with us.  Ryan is fine and the party went on with just Brice and his buddy Davin.  We took them out for pizza, a movie, video games and back to our house to play.  They had fun.

While Brian and I were out helping the boys celebrate my parents came into town to hold down the fort.  Our kids are a handful!
Our puppy Maizey spent last week in Doggy Boot Camp so now she can sit on command for pictures.
And finally for a little excitement.  My dear husband loves to grill and he has always stored his charcoal on the bottom shelf of the grill.  I mean what the heck is the shelf for besides charcoal and lighter fluid?  My dad, a retired firefighter/fire chief informed Brian he may want to find another storage location because a hot ember might set those items ablaze.  Now you should know the saying you'll marry someone just like your father could not be further from the truth in my situation.  My dad who I am quite certain invented the phrase "it's my way or the highway" does things his way and can be overly cautious, except in this instance.  Brian on the other hand is the exact opposite.  If it works go with it.  No need to be too compulsive, except maybe in this instance.

After enjoying our dinner and hanging out for a while Brian leapt from the sofa and ran for the door.  We all hustled outside to see Brian using the garden hose and my dad emerge from retirement to put the fire out.  It seems my dad could have been right this time.  Perhaps we shouldn't have stored the charcoal and lighter fluid there.  One little ember really can start a fire and make your grill look like this...

Huh.  Lesson learned.

2 Months

I am a week or so late but our little miss is two months old now and she had her well child appointment yesterday.  Of course she passed with flying colors despite a little eczema.  She is now 11.2 lbs and 25 1/4 inches long.  Amazing. Absolutely amazing.  I cannot believe how quickly she is changing and growing. I am certain Brice did not grow this fast.  Rogan I remember quickly became a toddler, quicker than his brother.  This time, the third time around I swear has moved even faster.  At the speed of light actually.

Avenn is cooing and making all sorts of adorable noises.  She continues to sleep through the night and I have to wake her almost every morning so we can take her brother to school.  This girl needs her rest.  Her hair is pure craziness and we love it.  It stands on end no matter what you do and we like it that way.  She has so much hair and it just stands straight up.  She twists, turns and cranes her neck working on her ability to roll over.  She smiles and giggles when you dress and undress her because she is ticklish around her neck and under her chin.  Her eyes are very focused and she reaches out toward her toys and mobiles.

It is highly likely that the shiny spot on her face is my lip gloss because I just planted a big smooch on those pudgy cheeks.  I mean, how can you not?
This would be her look of annoyance as I continue to snap pictures while she is trying to go to bed for the night.  Sorry sweet girl but I cannot get enough.

Redneck Rogan

Rogan is our little redneck.  You have seen the photos and posts of him in his boots, even his boots with his shorts.

Rogs and I were driving through town the other day and we noticed a lot of horse trailers heading downtown toward the fairgrounds.  Rogan was craning his neck to see all the trailers and was ecstatic to see the horses inside.  I told him we would head down to the fairgrounds today and see if we could find the horses.

We found them and my son was in heaven!  We walked through all the aisles of stalls and checked out all the horses.  Rogan was so impressed with the "real cowboys".  The men in boots, spurs, Wranglers and cowboy hats.  He was in awe.

After watching a few people show their horses and seeing all we could we headed out to the tractor supply store to look for a toy horse trailer.  Believe it or not, horse trailer toys with trucks are hard to find unless they are hot pink, purple and for Barbie.

We found a John Deere set with horses included.  As we were getting ready to leave I told Rogan we needed to go look for a doghouse for Maizey.  The dog houses are next to the equestrian aisle and Rogan headed right toward the horse stuff.  That is where he found them.  What every real cowboy needs.  A set of spurs.  Of course I let him get them, I couldn't break his little wanna be cowboy heart.

This being my first spur purchase I was unaware we needed to also purchase spur straps.  Therefore when we got home our little cowboy was sad and upset because he couldn't be a real cowboy without his spurs.  So, his redneck momma came up with a solution...

Yep, those are zip ties.  Cowboy Rogan is happy and his daddy is going by the tractor supply store on his way home to get him some real straps.

A great day.

Baby Shower

Brian's office held a shower/luncheon for us yesterday afternoon.  We had lots of food, conversation, stories and a good time. Amy (an associate of the firm) did a wonderful job planning the shindig and making sure no one left hungry.

When adopting, it is hard to plan a baby shower pre placement.  We have always had our showers after the babies were placed with us.  We felt having a shower beforehand might jinx our placement.  We have enjoyed the showers post placement because our babies have always been able to attend their own party!

Kindergarten

Today, Brice went off to kindergarten.  I was strong.  No tears were shed by either of us.  He was so excited to go to school.  I walked him to his class while his dad and siblings waited in the car.  We said our goodbyes and he was off. Off to start kindergarten.  Wow.  Our son is growing up.

We're Back!

We had a great trip!  We were on the road more than we would have liked instead of staying in one place for a while but there is just so much to see.  Our kids were great and traveled very well.  Here are a few of our photos...

Now it's back to the real world.  Brian is off to work, me to the laundry room, the kids are back with their toys, and this little guy....
is starting kindergarten on Thursday, unbelievable.
