Brice had swim lessons this morning and he has been acting up lately in class. He has been wanting to goof around and not listen to the teacher. Today, on our way to class I told Brice I really wanted to watch him today and see what he could do. As we were sitting on the pool deck waiting for class to begin, I asked Brice if he was going to show me his swimming moves. He said he was and as he was getting into the pool he hollered out to me, "Okay Boss, watch this!"
He did well in class today and even swam to the bottom of the pool in the shallow end to retrieve a dive ring. The class consists of 4 boys all Brice's age (Miss Deb has her hands full). When walking to the deep end of the pool they walk in a line with their hands on the shoulders of the boy in front of them. This is Miss Deb's way of keeping them out of trouble and safe on their way to the diving board and deep end.
On the way to the deep end today, Brice was the last boy in line. As they were walking he looked over and saw another child in a private lesson learning how to tread water in the middle of the pool with their teacher. Brice apparently thought the swimmer was in trouble. He jumped into action...he stepped out of line and picked up the rope divider lying on the pool deck and threw it to the child treading water. Exactly as he had been taught to help a swimmer in trouble.
Miss Deb stopped the line and walked over to Brice, it appeared to me from the observation room she told him good job helping, the swimmer was alright, and to get back into line. After class, Miss Deb told me Brice had a good day in class today and followed directions very well. I agreed and said, I saw when he stepped out of line to throw out a life line. Miss Deb started laughing and we both just shook our heads. Oh Brice, at least we know he's been paying attention even when he was goofing off. Never a dull moment.
